Springfield — Members of the Democratic Party of Illinois’ 18th Democratic Congressional District Committee recently unanimously endorsed passage of the governor’s Fair Tax proposal.
During a special committee meeting in Springfield on May 18, members of the committee supported the proposal to allow voters the chance to decide whether to implement a graduated income tax system — or Fair Tax — in Illinois. Members of the committee include the 20 county chairs within the 18th Congressional District.
“I am proud to support Gov. Pritzker’s Fair Tax plan that will help stabilize our state’s finances for the future,” said Bill Houlihan, the Democratic Party of Illinois’ State Central Committeeman for the 18th Congressional District. “Under the Fair Tax proposal, 97 percent of Illinois residents will pay the same in taxes or less while 3 percent of our state’s most wealthy residents pay more. It’s time to level the playing field in Illinois for hardworking individuals and families.”
